Well, has been for while since my last post. Past few weeks I have had problem with my computers harddrive I lost most of photos I was going to publish in here. I will try later find those photos. But here is some from my phone when I was making pipe for my good friend :)
First I had this block of briar( Erica arborea) and akrylic stem
I mostly use hand tools and I want it look like a little rustic
then I gave it first color layer and sanded
There is 3 layer of color and 3 layer of danish oil. Here it is ready. Sadly I dont have more photos :(
and as it was gift for my knifesmith friend,so I made some special stuff for him. I use old pistol shell and reindeer horn for stumper and sisna-leather for pouch.
My good friend, man behind "the old path" blog made this cleaver style knife for me.
Blade is handforged from bearing steel and handle is from Dalbergia. I have used it in kichen cuting meat and bones, also used in forest doing some whitling. Its rather heavy and made for man with large hand, so its very suitable for me :) Im more than pleased for that knife.
Sheath is hand sewed from cow leather and has wooden insert inside. Making sheath for that shape of blade has been challenging. But he succeed well for make very useable sheath.
My friend knifesmith Jani Ryynänen handforgrd me a new axe, bearded viking axe. Blade is from springsteel and eye is from low carbonsteel then handforged together.Originally these kind of axes Vikings used in battle but lack of battle at present day I use it for whittling ;) Handle is made from birch
Few weeks ago I post "Nordiska knivars blog" about Ilkka Seikku. This time is my good friend Jani Ryynänen There is some thought of Jani and pictures of his works. Here is Janis own blog , where can be find more Janis work.
Myself I got couple of Janis work and have had some discussion about my next knife. More about that later.......
Ilkka sent me email few days ago with this videolink. He has recorded it with his mobile phone while his testing his great bushprowler during he makes them. He always takes very seriously all his works. So he tests well all his products before deliver them to customers. I hope he makes more videos in future :)
I got two bushprowler myself and been more than pleased with them. In Finland we dont have full-tang knife culture and I hope in future Bushprowler will take place in finnish fulltang knife culture.
